I am probably thee most picky person when it comes to sugar cookies and I have to say, I have the perfect recipe. I absolutely HATE big, fluffy, floury sugar cookies. In my opinion, sugar cookies are supposed to be flatter and NEVER over cooked or else you ruin the entire batch. If your cookie is crunchy, you've cooked it too long. It should be soft and almost melt in your mouth, without tasting like straight cookie dough.
But I guess that's just me. My husband dies over Sour Cream Cookies- which are big and fluffy and not my style of sugar cookie :). Anyway, way back in high school my friend brought cookies to class and I immediately made her give me the recipe. I lost it a few months ago and was PANICKING so I wrote her on Facebook and, being the wonderful wonderful person that she is, she sent it to me instantly! Thank you Mecque'!!
I hope you enjoy these cookies as much as I do! They NEVER disappoint!
THEE Best Sugar Cookies
MIX TOGETHER:
1 cup butter
1 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1 cup powdered sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
ADD INGREDIENTS BELOW:
4 cups flour
1 teaspoon soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cream of tarter
Chill dough overnight or put in freezer for a few hours (which is what I usually do). Bake at 350 degrees for 8 minutes. DO NOT OVER BAKE, EVEN IF THEY DON'T QUITE LOOK DONE! :)
FROSTING:
Don't you dare ruin these cookies with store bought frosting! :)
¼ cup soft butter
2 cups powdered sugar
2 tablespoons of milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
Mix all ingredients together and frost over cooled cookies.
Oh, and sorry about the photo and lack of time spent frosting these cookies beautifully! I made them with my kids, and let's be honest, I had to fight for the frosting before my 2 year old ate it all!

What blasphemy is this?!! You don't like sour cream cookies?? ;) Okay, I'll have to give these a try...since you're such a good cook!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you love the cookies as much as I do! :)
ReplyDeleteI saw this on Pinterest and have been saving sugar cookie recipes and going to find my favorite! I am with you - not overcooked - almost undercooked - no brown edges and it shouldn't taste like flour. I am going to give yours a try. People have asked me for my favorite and I can't give them one because I haven't found one I love. (I don't love the sour cream ones either!)
ReplyDeleteJust made these and I have to say...AWESOME!!!! They were all that you said they would be...and a bowl of homemade frosting! I made the batch like you said, then rolled them into some plastic wrap and foil(just like the cookie rolls at stores). It made so much that I froze one roll and put the other in fridge overnight. I sliced up the roll from fridge and got 2 cookie sheets out of it....made pretty pink frosting and the kiddos and I had to "control ourselves", they were so good. Daddy will love these...and I still have another roll in the freezer...woohoo!! Thank you for this wonderful recipe, I will never buy "store bought" again!!
ReplyDeleteI don't like the sour cream sugar cookies either! They to me taste like cardboard] this recipe looks great. cross between sugar belles and bridget's (bakeat350.com.) and all have low egg/ high butter ratio and no sour cream. sugar cookies
