You may or may not have seen this dresser in a few Facebook and Instagram photos. If you have, I apologize! We took her to the market last week and apparently people don't come equipped with trucks and men to haul furniture (good to know) so sadly, she's still in my garage :) ...
Before & After
The Process
This dresser was in the best shape of any dresser I've ever painted-- WOOHOO!!-- so there really wasn't much prep work. Usually pieces turn out MUCH more difficult and time consuming than you think, but luckily this piece was so refreshing!
1. Sanded lightly
2. Painted with my spray gun. Paint color is BEHR Ultra "Dusty Mountain" in satin finish.
3. When the paint was completely dry I taped off the lines...
using FROG TAPE (the best tape for painting, in my opinion)...
4. And used a small brush to paint inside...
5. Pull off tape BEFORE paint is completely dry, otherwise it could peel. If you're patient enough you can paint the color of the dresser first (gray), wait for it to dry, then paint the white. BUT I'm not! I had a couple areas I just touched up with a tiny brush- no biggy.
6. Top coated with Polycrylic.
Painting the handles... will be in a separate post tomorrow ... sorry :)
And here she is at the market last week...
I've been on a gray kick lately for some reason! I can't seem to get over it! I'm LOVING this color of gray though, maybe when the can is gone I'll switch to a new color. What colors are YOU into these days??

Just bought this dresser and got it home today...love it! It looks soooo awesome! I am loving the gray and white.
ReplyDeleteSo happy you like it Melanie! It's always hard for me to part with furniture, but I love knowing they go to good homes! :) - Ashley @ LYB
DeleteWhat type of sprayer do you use? I'm looking at getting a HPLV spray gun but am looking for recommendations. This looks great - very similar to what I purchased at IKEA for probably much more than you were able to redo this one for!
ReplyDeleteHi Traci, I just sent you an email about sprayers... hopefully it helps! Let me know if you have anymore questions! :)
DeleteOh good grief, THAT's how you paint the indentation, boink moment, thank you!
