Love me some pallet shelves!
Someday I'll make some for myself! Or anything for myself!
Pallets are usually pretty easy to come by. If you ever spot any at local businesses go in and ask if they ever give them away. Sometimes you can even find them on the side of the road. OR if you're not too thrilled to do that, usually you can find them on Craigslist for about $4-$10.
Here's the tricky part: they are a BEAST to take apart. They are put together with Satan nails and lots of them! Make your husband do this, otherwise you might end up swearing, and it won't be pretty.
Pallet Shelves, however, don't require too much wood removal. We used our circular saw to cut them the length we wanted, then removed a few front boards.

Stencil:
I just used acrylic paint for this, but really you could probably use anything.
You can buy a pack of these stencils at Walmart for about $3. They come in a variety of sizes.
Place your stencil over the shelf and use a paintbrush (or q-tip) to lightly paint on the stencil. Press the stencil down firmly and make sure you don't have too much paint on your brush, otherwise it will seep through the cardboard stencil.
I painted every other letter/number then went back in between each to do the rest. That way you don't have to wait for each one to dry before painting another one.
Rough up the letters a bit using sand paper if you want to create a more worn look.
Here's another one. This one was whitewashed and stenciled.
What are your thoughts on pallet shelves? Love them? Like them? Hate them? :)

It's so funny you ask that. I see them in blogs and love them, I have pallets and even have made shelves. My problem is, I have no NEED for them! I keep trying to figure out where to put them, what I would use them for once they're up, but can't come up with one good excuse. Other than, I did hang one on the end of my kitchen island and store my foil, plastic wrap, etc, in it. But I totally love them.
ReplyDeleteI do like them.... I think... yeah. They are cool.
ReplyDeleteLove them! ;) BTW, I am local - do you all have a store front?! (hoping & praying & hoping!)
ReplyDeleteOh I can see these in a kids room with books in them. How cute! Or in the garage for tools. Nice, thanks for the great job showing us how to make the best of all the stuff we think should go in the trash! Awesome.
