Finger Painting Handles

That's right, finger painting. I think to most people furniture refinishing is SOOO overwhelming, but you just have to take it one small step at a time. And if it takes finger painting to get the job done...then so be it! My 4 year old helped me with these... no joke! If she can do it, so can you!

The Process
Supplies:
Hardware
Soap/Water/Scrub brush
Primer
Sealer (opt.)

1. Remove hardware from furniture.
2. If the hardware is super old I always soak it in soapy water to get all the gunk off. You'd be amazed at the nasty stuff that comes off! Give them a few minutes then scrub if necessary and rinse.
It should dull the finish if you've scrubbed them...
3. Then (and of course I don't have a picture of this!)...  for these handles I literally dipped my finger into my can of KILZ primer (so it wasn't dripping) and started to rub the primer on lightly in the areas I wanted. Call me crazy, but I actually really liked this method. No need for paint, the primer was the color I wanted (white) and of course, sticks to anything so I don't have to worry about it chipping. I had to go over some areas twice just because it wasn't as light as I wanted, but I did it all at the same time, no waiting in between coats.

When you're finished you CAN add a coat of sealer (I'd recommend Polycrylic spray), but if you're using primer I don't think it's necessary.

If you want to PAINT your handles check out my PAINTING HARDWARE post! This is probably the more proper way to do it :).

Questions? Don't be scared to ask!
