This bread is by far thee best bread I've ever made! This recipe comes from my sister-in-law's grandma whose family is full of wonderful cooks! When Natasha (my sister-in-law) cooks, you always know she's whipping up something a.m.a.z.i.n.g! I feel like we have similar tastes so every time she makes something I have to get the recipes.
Granny's Whole Wheat Bread
Ingredients:
4 cups hot water
2/3 cup oil
1/3 cup molasses
3/4 cup honey (or substitute 1/2 cup sugar if you don't have honey)
2 Tbsp. salt
2 eggs, slightly beaten
1 cup instant powdered milk
13 cups freshly ground whole-wheat flour, divided (or half white flour)
2 Tbsp. yeast
Number of Servings: 4 Loaves
Directions:
In a mixer, combine hot water, oil, molasses, honey, salt, eggs, powdered milk and 4 cups flour. Mix on low speed until combined. Add yeast and remaining 9 cups flour all at once; mix well. You can use part white flour if you prefer. I usually do about 8 cups whole wheat and 5 white flour. Knead in mixer for 10 minutes. Dough will be quite sticky. (It won't be as sticky if you have used some white flour.)
Remove dough to a large oiled bowl and turn dough to coat with oil. Cover with wax paper and let rise until double (at least one hour, more if room temp is cool).
Oil the counter top and rolling pin. Divide dough into 4 equal parts. Roll out one part the size of your pan, fold up and roll out again in length of bread pan; pinch seam and put loaf in pan sprayed with cooking spray. Repeat for 3 other loaves.
Cover and let rise again for 30-60 minutes, again depending on room temp. Bake all loaves at once at 350 degrees for 30-45 minutes. The tops will be light brown or brown. Remove loaves from pans to cool completely. I also usually butter the tops to give them a nice shiny finish... and, let's be honest, who doesn't love butter??

So excited! I've been wanting a good wheat bread recipe...and WA LA, you deliver :) Thx!
