Peaches N' Cream

As the summer comes to an end I find myself revelling in the peaches brought especially to me by the warm weather.  I have to say, peaches are by far my favorite fruit.  This supple fruit has very few calories and absolutely no fat. Also whenever I eat a peach I find that I am energized and my craving for sugar subsides.

My grandmother is famous for her fresh peach pie (which I will be sharing with you later), and she would always prepare Peaches N' Cream for us from the giant box of peaches she would buy from an orchard for her pies.  Her theory of Peaches N' Cream consisted of diced peaches, milk, cinnamon and extra sugar.  The scent of peaches reminds me of her and I know this fruit will forever be in my heart.  I wanted to share a few recipes that really bring out the peach in us all.  And maybe this fruit will find a way into your hearts too.
Since the days of Peaches N' Cream in my grandmother's kitchen I have adapted her process of extra sugar, into no sugar.  Now my morning peach dish is the ever so delightful Granola N' Peaches.  I'll top it off with almond milk or even Kefir, a non fat probiotic dairy product. It kinda tastes like thinned out yogurt and can be found at most grocery stores.

You know you can't go wrong when your recipe comes from Martha Stewart's kitchen.  These Fruit-Filled Hand Pies and this Peach and Cream Icecream Cake make me want to plan a tea party for one.

If you are feeling fancy try this Zabaglione with Fresh Peaches and Raspberries dish, which also comes from Martha's kitchen.  It's made with a delicious Italian custard, Zabaglione, which is whipped into submission.  It is very light and decadent, you won't be disappointed.
Lastly, I wanted to let you in on a Sunday morning secret of mine,  Sweet Peach Pancakes.  Change in up this weekend and treat your kids to this peach delight.

What memories will your children take with them into their adult years?  My grandmother is known for her stubbornness and predictability, but I have found that these attributes are some of her best.  She always stubbornly insisted on making us something to eat and it was usually predictable pie.

  2. Thank you so much, this so reminded me of my Grandpa who grew THE most amazing peaches. Many a summer night were spent chatting over a bowl of juicy peaches and fresh cream. Love!
