Two Toned Dresser Set

I received these other pieces to THIS dresser a few weeks ago and decided to go a completely different route on the paint this time. With their feminine, french look I knew I wanted to keep them rich and classic.  It's not very often you find an entire set of furniture in absolutely perfect condition, so restoring their beauty was fairly easy to accomplish. Plus it's always nice not having to staple, nail, glue, or wood fill furniture even before you start painting!

With these pieces, I started out by stripping the tops and the drawers. I used Jasco stripper, but have been DYING to try Smart Strip, suggested by Shaunna from Imperfectly Perfect. You can leave it on for up to 24 hours without it drying (what!?!) ... sounds too good to be true! Honestly, stripper is not my favorite to work with for many reasons; it's messy, dries quickly, and BURNS if it touches your skin, which is why I'm excited to try this new kind. Shaunna gives a great tutorial on Smart Strip- in her living room, might I add! - and already has me sold on the product!

After the pieces were stripped, I sanded down to bare wood and brushed a few coats of Minwax Dark Walnut stain over the wood. Then began the painting. I taped off the dresser tops and used THIS homemade chalk paint recipe, painting with BEHR "Moon Rise". When everything was dry I sealed with Minwax Polycrylic.

I decided to keep the handles the same color this time. I debated dry-brusing them white on top of the gold for a more modern look, but in the end thought this look was a little more classic. Who knows, maybe I'll end up changing them before they're sold! :)

These will be added to our Little Yellow Barn Store. If you're interested in any pieces, please email me or Jourdan at littleyellowbarn@gmail.com. We can also finish YOUR furniture, so keep that in mind next time you want to throw out that nasty ol' rocking chair that has been collecting dust since 1978! :)

  1. Beeeeutiful! The furniture maker should have stained it dark in the first place, look so much like it was meant to be that way.
