CHEAP DIY Pillow Forms

It's almost not even worth making your own pillows when you figure the cost of fabric these days. Not to mention the pillow form inserts that go INSIDE the pillow cases. They're almost as expensive as buying an already finished pillow!

If you've never made your own pillow forms, now is the time to start. Decorative pillows can be so expensive so here's your chance to make your own and actually have them be cheaper!

Growing up it seemed like sewing your own things was way cheaper than buying them. What happened to that?! When did fabric get to be $8.99-18.99 for halfway descent stuff? I'm always blown away when I look at the price tags!

Ok, hello tangent.
Here's how to make your own pillow forms...

Supplies:

Pillows
-All you need is a few of the cheapest pillows from Walmart or Target or any similar store. I bought mine from Walmart for under $3. If they're smaller pillows you won't even need the entire thing.

Fabric
-At Hobby Lobby you can always get one item for 40% off if you've signed up for their coupons (which I highly recommend by the way!) Get the cheapest fabric you can find to sew your pillow form. I think muslin is about $2.50 per yard before the 40% off.

Thread
Sewing Machine or Surger
Cutting Mat
Rotary Cutter
Pins (optional)

How To:

1. Decide how big you want your pillow and cut your fabric to size.

2.Sew along the edges, leaving a 5 inch opening to stuff your pillow. Also, if you don't care how the    pillow looks, you can also surge along 3 edges, stuff your pillow and surge the fourth edge shut when finished.

3.Turn your fabric right side out.

4. Cut open your Walmart or Target pillow and pull out the stuffing. Fill your new pillow form (that you just sewed) with the stuffing. Shape it and fill it to the desired fullness and sew the hole shut.

Done. There you have it. A pillow form for less than $5. Want to make them for even cheaper? Search your house for old pillows (everybody has them) and tear those apart! All it costs you is the 40% off fabric... that's one cheap pillow form!

Here's a few pillows I've made using my cheap pillow forms...

No, not the cute yellow one :) ... the huge sheep skin ones in the back. I don't even want to know how much those would've cost had I not made the forms myself!!

Hopefully this helps cheapen your life! :) I'm a major cheap-o so purchasing pillow forms will n.e.v.e.r  be on my to-do list!

  3. Super smart! Also, instead of muslin, if you can find cheap plain sheets and you could probably make a ton.
