Fall Stocking

Giant stockings seem to be a Christmas time tradition.  But when the weather starts to change and the cold comes to visit Arizona gain, I love hanging this GIANT FALL colored STOCKING.  It gets me in the mood for candy corn, pumpkin pie, turkey and outdoor fires on those mildly chilly AZ nights.

Sewing is not my strong suit, but every now and then there will be a project I'm willing to break out the sewing machine for.  This stocking will be a sinch if you have a knack for sewing.

To start, I traced the shape I wanted onto a large piece of butcher paper.
I then sewed my patches of fabric together, following the shape of the paper stocking.
With the front of my stocking completed, I added a few ruffled strips of fabric to the top of my stocking, sewing the ruffles straight onto the patches I had pieced together.
To the very top of the front piece, right above the ruffles, I sewed a piece of trim made of black fur.
I then cut out a piece of black fabric for the backing, using my template made of butcher paper.
At this point I sewed the backing to the front by placing the front and back pieces "face together", sewing around the edges and then turning the sock inside out. Be sure to leave the top of the stocking open to do this.  I hand stitched a section of a feather boa to the top and hot glued a few fabric roses on for extra flair.  For a video tutorial on how to make these fabric roses, click HERE.

These instruction might not be very helpful, but like I said, I'm not a skilled sewer and I was just kinda winging it when I made this thing.  If you need help or have any questions... hopefully you know someone that sews.
Also, Mommy By Day, Crafter By Night has crazy-good sewing tutorials.  Check her out, you will be inspired, I promise.
